Cloud computing enables you to have on-demand access to a pool of dynamically configurable computing resources, which can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal effort or interaction, and which are allocated — or even paid for — based only on the amount used.

These clouds of computer resources are often assumed to be external to your organization’s IT department, but they could also be set up within your company’s four walls (known as an “internal cloud”), or in a hybrid model that includes both internal and external compute resources.
