2012 Best Companies for Multicultural Women

It's a Fact!

CA Technologies will fully match any charitable gift an employee makes, up to $5,000 per year.

What We Love

Finding a workplace that will let you take three paid days off to volunteer in your community is nearly unheard of in the corporate world—but it’s business as usual at this management software and solutions company, which is quickly becoming a destination for multicultural employees. Women who want to inspire the next generation can investigate Tech Girls Rock, an initiative their employer is supporting through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which gets kids excited about technical education and careers. Should women desire a little guidance themselves, they can inquire about the company’s new Women in Technology Mentoring Program or enroll in any of its other multiple mentoring initiatives.

Disaster Recovery Gets a Boost From Cloud Computing

CAThe amount of data created and held by companies is increasing exponentially, and keeping it safe continues to be a major cause for concern. At the same time, cloud computing, rather than remaining a theoretical concept, is now a reality for many organizations. Data loss continues to be a huge problem for companies across North America that are looking to cloud-based platforms for a solution, according to a survey commissioned by CA Technologies, "Insights: Data Protection and the Cloud."

The study of 300 companies across North America (200 in the U.S., 100 in Canada), which was conducted by Coleman Parkes Research, found that 55 percent of U.S. organizations expect their use of the cloud to increase as part of their business-continuity strategy over the next year. The study is a follow-up to a previous CA Technologies survey, "The Avoidable Cost of Downtime," which found that the cost of outages to a company over a year is in the range of $160,000.

Service virtualization arises to meet services testing obstacles

Service virtualization underlies an emerging class of tools for modeling SOA components. Using a new form of simulation, development teams can now work with representations of software services long before they are actually available.

That addresses some of the biggest bottlenecks in creating high-quality composite applications, and it helps would-be Agile development efforts that must keep up with fast-moving Web applications.

“The idea of virtualization playing into the application development lifecycle is the most exciting technology we have seen for a while,” said Theresa Lanowitz, founder and analyst at Voke Media. “It will enable IT organizations, including the development, test, and operations teams to manage the classic cost, quality, schedule triangle.”

CA Process Automation 4 Arrives

CA Technologies has launched the fourth iteration of its CA Process Automation solution, promising to bring better efficiency across all networking activities. CA Process Automation 4 will specifically focus on business services automation, accelerating the delivery of IT, cloud services and virtualized environments.

CA Process Automation 4, at its core, is really about erasing the pain points typically associated with data center management. This is achieved through new software features like monitoring and diagnostic tools, but also through the ease with which it can be deployed and configured. CA Technologies prides itself on the streamlined features that allow IT admins to start automatizing with little effort, all thanks to the CA Services catalog. What’s more, CA Process Automation 4 will unify automation across virtual, physical and cloud environments, or wherever “key IT operational processes” happen to live.

CA Technologies Kicks off May Mainframe Madness

CA Technologies is kicking off May Mainframe Madness 2012 (MMM 2012), this week. The event is a free, virtual trade show intended to deliver educational presentations to customers around the globe throughout the month.

The fourth-annual event leverages cloud and social media technologies, and is delivered as a SaaS cloud offering. The event's line-up includes hundreds of sessions, keynotes, demos and educational presentations and materials designed to help IT professionals expand their skill sets and further optimize their mainframes to address key business challenges, while also helping them save time and travel costs.

Last year's event drew 5,000 registrants from 59 countries, and connected partners, industry experts and colleagues via virtual booths and online chats.
