Swedish Council maximises budgets and improves public services with automated and integrated IT management.

Business Overview:
The county of Västra Götaland in Sweden is home to more than 1.6 million people. Västra Götaland Regional Council (VGR) and its 50,000 employees are responsible for providing healthcare services to the county’s residents and promoting tourism, culture and environmental protection.

Challenge:
To ensure the region’s 300-plus healthcare facilities receive high-quality and cost-effective IT services, VGR has consolidated its IT operations. With 45,000 workstations, 1,800 servers and around 1,000 systems/applications now supported centrally, VGR IT needed to increase automation and integration to remove cost and complexity.

Solution:
Working with CA and business consultants Netgain, VGR has developed an IT strategy based on CA’s EITM (Enterprise IT Management) approach. Using CA Service Desk Manager and CA IT Asset Management solutions, VGR IT has streamlined incident, problem, change and request management. For example, the majority of product-related requests received by VGR IT each month can be processed without any manual intervention.

Benefit:
CA’s EITM approach has enabled VGR IT to achieve significant improvements to efficiency — automating request management will free up substantial amounts of staff time. The organisation has also been able to reduce IT costs, which means more money can be invested in improving healthcare services.
