Glossary

Detection - Recognize either files infected by a virus of standalone trojan/worm files.

Cure - Remove a virus from a host file. No changes made to the system, e.g. no registry changes, no files deleted. Only viruses can be cured because they attach themselves to host files (EXEs, DOCs, XLSs, etc). Worm and trojan can by definition not be cured because they do not infect host files. They propagate either on their own (worm) or manually (trojan) and do not change. Worm or trojan files can be deleted and do not require cure by the engine.

System cure - Undo changes to a system done by a virus (except for cleaning files, that's cure), trojan or worm. For worms and trojans this involves deleting the files, deleting any dropped files, fixing registry, etc.

Note: Inoculan 4/InoculateIT 4.5 does not provide system cure. Users are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version of CA Anti-Virus.
