Introducing CA Mainframe Application Tuner r8.5
CA Technologies is pleased to announce CA Mainframe Application Tuner r8.5, a solution that enables IT organizations to quickly pinpoint mainframe application performance problems and proactively identify tuning opportunities. By helping performance analysts improve application response times and reduce CPU consumption, this technology supports the CA Technologies Mainframe 2.0 strategy to help IT simplify management and control costs.

CA Mainframe Application Tuner r8.5 combines functionality that CA Technologies previously sold as TRILOGexpert TriTune® and TRILOGexpert APC™ for TriTune®. In July 2010, CA Technologies purchased a non-exclusive, worldwide, source code license for these solutions from Trilog AG/AQM Solutions, allowing CA Technologies to produce, market, and support its own versions of these products. CA Mainframe Application Tuner r8.5 now enables all users to take advantage of the proactive alerts and tuning opportunities that APC for TriTune previously provided.

CA Mainframe Application Tuner r8.5 provides important integration with CA Technologies mainframe solutions to help streamline application performance management and development and testing activities. CA Mainframe Application Tuner is now part of the CA Technologies cross-enterprise application performance management solution, providing drill-down details about mainframe performance issues to performance analysts. When CA SYSVIEW® Performance Management detects a mainframe performance problem, it can automatically initiate CA Mainframe Application Tuner measurements to provide the detailed analytics that help identify the root cause of the problem.

Moreover, CA Mainframe Application Tuner's integration with CA Endevor® Software Change Manager and key testing solutions including CA InterTest™ and CA SymDump® automates and simplifies the process by which users can view symbolic versions of their programs and helps prevent manual errors. With a single pre-processing step, the same symbolic listings are dynamically available to CA InterTest, CA SymDump, CA Optimizer®/II, and CA Mainframe Application Tuner users. This means developers do not need to compute addresses or displacements or worry about address changes after recompilation, even for modules that consist of separately compiled programs link-edited together. This process can be completely automated for CA Endevor SCM customers.

CA Mainframe Application Tuner r8.5 customers can take advantage of its new support for CA Mainframe Software Manager, which will significantly streamline its acquisition, installation, deployment and maintenance. Moreover, CA Mainframe Application Tuner is now part of the CA z/OS stack and benefits from its stringent pre-release Installation Verification Program (IVP) and Execution Verification Program (EVP) testing. CA Mainframe Application Tuner also offers best-practices guides and serviceability enhancements to speed problem resolution.

CA Endevor SCM Aggregate maintenance has been published for Endevor r12 and Endevor r14. For details, go to the CA Endevor SCM Maintenance Grid located off the CA Endevor SCM home page then click the aggregate maintenance link for either r14 or r12 (whichever applies to your site)

CA Endevor® SCM
*IMPORTANT REMINDER* The CA Endevor SCM "expand-include" utility, ENBX1000, was functionally-stabilized for r12 and r14 in November 2010.

The product team will continue to distribute the utility in future releases of CA Endevor SCM but will no longer provide modifications. The Enterprise COBOL for z/OS compiler's native integrated co-processor feature can be used within an Endevor processor instead of ENBX1000. Now Available in CA Endevor® SCM r14
DUPLICATE OUTPUT/TYPE CHECK ACROSS SUBSYSTEM! GOOD NEWS for sites that align output libraries at the System level instead of the Subsystem level. This enhancement expands the element processor output registration capability to prevent duplicate element names across Subsystems defined to a specific System. Click here for details.

CA Endevor® SCM's Package Cast's Component Validation Report
Did you know that you can obtain CA Endevor SCM's Package Cast's component validation report in a concise CSV file?

• If you submit the CAST in batch, add the following DD statement to your CAST JCL:
  
  
  • //FPVL$CSV DD DISP=SHR,DSN=CAST.CSV.FILE
    
    
• If you select CAST as a foreground action, issue the following TSO command:
  
  
  • TSO ALLOC FI(FPVL$CSV) DSN('CAST.CSV.FILE') SHR
    
    
• The FPVL$CSV file must be Fixed/Blocked with LRECL 256.
  
  
• The CAST report will be written in the classical format to SYSOUT but the component validation section will also be written to an external file in CSV format:
  
  
  • The CSV file can be sorted in any desired format showing at a glance which components are missing and which elements need to be regenerated to pick up the latest versions of their input components.
