General Availability Announcement for CA ERwin® Modeling r8
On behalf of CA Technologies, we are pleased to announce that CA ERwin Modeler r8 is now available. This product release includes all published r7.3.x maintenance, as well as many new and exciting features developed specifically for this release and based on feedback from our customers and the CA ERwin Modeling community. Please go to the product pages of support.ca.com to view details and download instructions. We also encourage you to visit ERwin.com for more information.

CA ERwin® Data Modeler 7.3.11 is Now Available
We are pleased to announce a new Patch Release for our r7.3.x users. If you have reported a problem and been informed that a fix will be available in CA ERwin Data Modeler 7.3.11, you can now download it by going to support.ca.com/prodinfo/erwin. If you want to review the changes before you install 7.3.11, you can click on the Problems link just below the Latest Patch Release link to review the Solutions.txt file.

Remember that installing 7.3.11 will upgrade your current product version so if you want to check it out, while maintaining your current production environment, you will need to install it in a separate test environment. If you don't need to realize a fix in this new Patch Release, there is no need to upgrade as this is a maintenance only release.

CA Insight™ Database Performance Manager
Following are the areas within the product space that have fixes/optimizations available from which you can benefit. These are not available on the CA Support Online yet and customers are requested to get in touch with their Customer Success Manager (Support Availability Manager) or CA Support Representative.

1. Find listener status in case of Oracle Remote Monitoring
2. Tuning "max open cursors" scan in Oracle
3. Support multiple host names in multi NIC environment
4. Fix for long domain names on Linux
5. Fixes for "uv_log" based scans on Linux
6. Tuning Oracle Session CPU% scan on multi core systems
7. Fixes for jobfailure alarms for MS SQL Server
8. Fixes for Sybase context switch %

Plan Your Move to CA ERwin® r8

CA ERwin r8 is finally here. This much anticipated release can be downloaded from the ERwin.com website. I was honored to speak on behalf of our modeling community on the Visualize the Power of Your Data with CA ERwin r8 webcast earlier this week. Sandhill, a CA Technologies partner, is rolling out training with 20 USA cities on their schedule. I can promise you that the Modeling Global User Community and CA partners will be offering r8 webcasts in the coming months.

I am sure that upgrading to this new release to take advantage of new features and the cleaner, more customizable modeling workspace are on your mind. It's been on mine for the past few months. I've began that planning process at my site. Upgrading an enterprise installation of CA ERwin and ModelMart takes some planning. Data modelers, DBAs, and Data Architects cannot afford an outage of the workbench on which they perform their everyday design tasks. Here are some of the early planning tasks that I am currently performing so that I can deploy CA ERwin r8 in Q2-2011.

CA ERwin® Data Modeler r8
Well, the big news for this publication is that r8 is here! With a lot of new functionality, r8 is exciting, but because of that new functionality, we also wanted to share some helpful tips.

We have new videos, technical documents, and, of course, the product documentation (which you can read before you install the product), on our One Stop Support page at support.ca.com/prodinfo/erwin or by going to erwin.com and clicking on Support. The most important documents are featured in the Upgrade Information option in the ERwin r8 drop down list.

You can download r8, and apply for your new CA ERwin Data Modeler r8 license by clicking on the appropriate links in the Latest Product Release section. When you click on the licensing link, there is also a helpful Technical Document which will walk you through the licensing process.

Remember two important things:

1. CA ERwin Data Modeler r8 will run in Community Edition mode, even while you are waiting for your license, so you can download it and install it immediately. When you get your full license and enter it, the full functionality of your edition will be unlocked. How can one download be multiple products? Check out the video CA ERwin Data Modeler r8: Applications & Licenses at erwin.com/videos.
2. Because CA ERwin Data Modeler r8 is a new application and is installed in a separate directory, it will not upgrade your existing CA ERwin Data Modeler r7.x installation and will not disturb your current production environment. So you can take plenty of time to explore the new functionality before you take the leap.

Once you get CA ERwin Data Modeler installed, Technical Support is as close as your Help menu. Just click on Help, and choose Technical Support, Communities, Licensing, and other options to help you navigate the new functionality in this exciting release.

Form names display differently when using a function in the Query? Due to DB2 V8 Long Name support, the functions on columns had to be updated to display in a more condensed format. Please view tech doc TEC471759 for details.

How to Disable the Release Highlights When Signing on to Insight™ for DB2
