CA ecoSoftware
First used within CA Technologies, CA ecoSoftware solution is continuing to help improve sustainability at corporations throughout the world. It helps IT and facilities staff gain greater availability, agility and efficiency in their data center and IT operations. We were recently named a leading provider of enterprise-scale energy management software by Verdantix in its report, Green Quadrant Energy Management Software (Global), December 2011. Separately, David Metcalfe, CEO of Verdantix, noted that “CA ecoSoftware…can help organizations better manage energy from the asset to the enterprise level .”
In 2012, we announced a commitment to promote energy efficiency and help protect the environment by becoming an official ENERGY STAR® Service and Product Provider Partner. We believe that the organization-wide energy and sustainability management approach offered in our CA ecoSoftware will help to promote greater energy efficiency, while also helping companies to meet their financial and sustainability goals.
We created these products using some of our strongest existing technologies as a foundation. We then innovated to meet key needs in four areas:
- Sustainability Management – to help define sustainability strategy and goals and then select and run a program that will deliver on those goals, including choosing the right initiatives and being able to report on them much more quickly and efficiently
- Carbon Management (and Natural Resource Management) – to measure, calculate and report on energy use, water, waste and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the enterprise
- Environmental Assessments – to measure the environmental performance of sites, facilities and suppliers, this technology provides a method and process for capturing information more easily via Web-based questionnaires
- Operation Energy and Power Management – to measure, monitor, analyze, manage and control data center and facilities performance across an organization
CA ecoSoftware capabilities are delivered through three integrated parts:
CA ecoMeter helps visualize, monitor and report on energy use in data centers and across facilities. It captures detailed real-time data to measure performance, identify trends and issue alerts, as well as to help take action to better use capacity, enhance reliability and performance and make ongoing improvements. The newest version of CA ecoMeter delivers valuable new capabilities to support power management for data centers and IT. According to a September 2011 IDC white paper , “CA ecoMeter’s real-time analytics and accurate monitoring enable informed decisions and a true reality check versus what many data center managers believe about how their data center operates today and how it could operate tomorrow.” CA ecoGovernance is sustainability management software that helps companies measure, manage and report their impacts associated with energy, carbon, water and waste. It helps them make more effective decisions, take action and pursue a systematic, governed approach to environmental initiatives.
CA ecoDesktop helps customers manage desktop and PC power consumption by reducing wasted energy and increasing staff productivity. One customer, the Municipality of Ballerup in Denmark, expects CA ecoDesktop to save them approximately $549,000 on energy costs over three years while reducing carbon emissions.
We recently added a number of new customers for CA ecoSoftware, including NCC and StratITsphere. NCC is a leading Swedish construction and property company that is looking to us to help reduce its carbon emissions, cut energy costs and manage sustainability. StratITsphere is an IT services company that provides infrastructure and security consulting, and data center and cloud services. It is using CA ecoSoftware to collect and consolidate energy metrics at its 100,000-square-foot data center to facilitate customer reporting and billing, efficient cooling strategies and power management.
The next step for CA ecoSoftware is to explore tracking certain social dimensions of sustainability.
Security
Sustainable approaches to IT make security and privacy issues increasingly important.
CA Technologies strong, on-premise solutions are now being leveraged in cloud, virtual and SaaS environments, offering customers vital privacy and identity and access management capabilities.
We provide solutions such as Content-Aware Identity and Access Management, which help manage not only users and their access to information, but also their use of information. These solutions offer capabilities that control access and customize policies based on data content and user profiles, enabling more effective protection of critical corporate and customer information.
System, Application & Data Protection
The CA ARCserve® Family of Products gives customers a complete strategy to manage backup, recovery and availability for their systems, applications and data in both virtual and physical environments.
Whether protecting IT resources in the data center or in remote offices, these solutions help minimize system downtime and data loss, improve IT productivity through robust centralized deployment and management and reduce business continuity and disaster recovery costs through virtualization, data deduplication and bandwidth optimization capabilities.
Virtualization
Virtual computing environments help maximize system capabilities while minimizing the physical assets that take up real estate, use energy and require disposal.
CA Technologies expertise in highly virtualized environments gives us an edge in optimizing these implementations with robust management and advanced automation. New levels of speed and flexibility can also enable significant reductions in costs and carbon footprint.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is Internet-based computing in which shared resources, applications and information are provided on demand to computers and other devices.
A growing number of analysts recognize CA Technologies as an emerging leader in providing solutions for public and private cloud computing across diverse virtual and physical platforms. These products are helping chief information officers become masters of a dynamic IT services supply chain.
SaaS
SaaS—Software as a Service—is becoming an increasingly popular approach to cutting costs and minimizing a company’s carbon footprint by reducing overall data center requirements for application support.
The CA Technologies on demand alternative to on-premise applications helps customers achieve higher return on investment faster and easily add capabilities as their needs mature.
