Business: Workcover is responsible for rehabilitating and compensating injured workers, and getting them back to safe workeplaces and the community. Funded by employers, it administers the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1986 and the South Australian Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme (Scheme).
Challenge: To prevent disruption to its services and day-to-day operations, WorkCover needs to ensure that its employees have continuous access to business-critical data. When it upgraded its legacy IT systems, it needed to be able to recover core business data and services within 24 to 48 hours of a disaster.
Solution: Following a successful pilot, WorkCover consolidated its backup operations onto CA ARCserver Backup. The solution backs up systems and data from around 100 servers to disk and tape, and will prove key to protecting the organisation’s new virtual server environment.
Result: WorkCover can now recover data within an hour or two from disk and six to eight hours from off-site tape. The process is now more reliable and efficient, which has reduced the IT workload by around 10 hours a week, enhanced business continuity and staff productivity and minimised the risk of disruption to stakeholders.
