Companies have various types of applications and nearly every company has one or more key systems that are critical to their success. In this session we look at the failings of the traditional "nightly" backup and the exposure we risk to a potential of a whole day of data loss in the event of a failure or corruption. Today more systems support fault tolerance using application level technologies however many applications still do not have high availability capabilities and even those that do rarely offer the ability to restore to a specific point in time or restore a complete OS image. We will look at some of the technologies behind a new breed of near real-time data protection solutions that perform frequent block-level incremental backups of our data and store them centrally for rapid recovery. With these new technologies we see a dramatic increase in availability and confidence in our ability to restore in a crisis and the boon that brings to our business and our data and application availability. We'll see that data corruption and failure happens but with the right infrastructure we can minimize data loss and system downtime.
