CA Technologies Demonstrates Participation in the Cyber Operations Metrics for Security Management Project at TM Forum’s Management World 2012
CA Business Service Insight supports project addressing issues associated with cyber attacks on supply chains
MORGES, Switzerland, May 24, 2012 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) is showcasing the results of its participation in the Operational Metrics for the Cyber Defence Catalyst project at TM Forum’s Management World Conference, Dublin, 21-24 May 2012. The project aims to solve the issue of cyber defence within a supply chain environment and particularly the issue of contractual obligations to other participants in the supply chain.
“Cyber attacks are fast and repeatable in nature, so if a cyber attack were to find a weak point, perhaps caused by an unfulfilled SLA within a supply chain, it would be relatively easy for the attacker to replicate the attack over and over again at great speed and potentially disrupt the entire supply chain,” said Luke Forsyth, vice president Security Services, EMEA. “Even the best defended supply chain is only as strong as the weakest link.”
The Operational Metrics for the Cyber Defence project aims to define the obligations of supply chain participants, translate those obligations into SLAs and then to develop mechanisms to automate records of compliance with those SLAs in place. CA Business Service Insight would monitor SLA performance for the supply chain.
For example, if computers within one business of the supply chain did not have up to date patches, it would feed this SLA violation into the SLA governance tool and an alarm would alert the supplier. The benefit of this approach is that the critical supply chain would be able to measure how ready it is for a cyber crisis. “In order to be adequately defended, the organisation must know that its supply chain is also prepared and able to endure the cyber crisis. These measures are complicated and require automation. CA Technologies will be demonstrating some of the ways these measures can be automated,” concluded Forsyth.
CA Technologies will be demonstrating some of the ways these measures can be automated at stand #54.
