CA Technologies Software Safeguards State of New Hampshire Intellectual Property and Helps Save Taxpayers’ Money
State’s Department of IT Uses CA Harvest Software Change Manager to Manage Development and Upgrades to Existing and New Applications
ISLANDIA, N.Y., July 14, 2013 –The State of New Hampshire’s Department of IT (DOIT) has implemented CA Harvest Software Change Manager to manage code and Intellectual Property (IP) and provide version control for hundreds of applications. As a result, the state agency has been able to reduce risk, increase efficiency and drive cost savings. For the state’s taxpayers, this translates into improved services and better value.
The DOIT provides IT strategy, planning and services to 68 state agencies, which are responsible for all public services ranging from public safety and transport to welfare and education. The department has large quantities of software and intellectual property (IP), which represent a significant investment of time and resources – and, ultimately, taxpayer dollars. Without a secure and consistent methodology for managing and mandating the software change process along with a central repository for securing the software assets, the state and its agencies were vulnerable in the event of a major outage or even an audit.
“A key challenge for DOIT revolves around meeting demand and required timescales with the resources and budget available. Prioritizing and optimizing resources are essential,” said Peter Hastings, acting commissioner for DOIT.
“Because source code is time-consuming and costly to develop, it needs to be properly protected and managed. CA Harvest Software Change Manager is helping the state deliver greater value to its citizens.
The CA solution provides DOIT and other state agencies with an efficient, effective way to manage application development from checkout through production delivery for existing application changes and upgrades as well as brand new application installations. The solution’s support of many different development platforms has led to its adoption as a standard tool used across the agency.
“We currently use CA Harvest Software Change Manager to manage approximately 315 applications, which we are changing every day,” said Alan Soucy, technical support specialist VI, State of New Hampshire. “Using this solution, developers can focus their time and energy on developing great code instead of worrying about versioning and administration of a project.”
“Accurate and rapid source code change management is critical for agile development and a crucial building block for a broader DevOps strategy -- which provides customers and businesses with proper code management. It is critical to helping ensure projects are on time, on budget and production applications are successfully providing business service to customers and employees,” said Michael Madden, general manager, Mainframe, CA Technologies. “It’s a core element of every good application and service.”
