ISLANDIA, N.Y., November 11, 2008 – CA (NASDAQ: CA) has enhanced its CA IT Client Manager (CA ITCM) solution by incorporating the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) Scanner, a unique new feature designed to assist federal agencies in meeting the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) FDCC mandate. This valuable function helps enterprise administrators to perform automated configuration checking and remediation of end point systems against the FDCC checklists, offering them a pass, fail, or not applicable reporting for each of the end systems.
CA has just completed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) testing process, and the agency has validated that the FDCC Scanner conforms to the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) and its component standards. The new inventory module within CA ITCM has been classified as a Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) Scanner and Authenticated Configuration Scanner.
CA chose a unique approach—incorporating the FDCC Scanner into its highly rated asset management solution rather than creating a standalone product—to meet the mandate announced by OMB last year. The mandate requires Federal agencies upgrading their desktop computers and those running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista to conform to the FDCC, a set of operating system configurations authored by NIST and the National Security Agency to help ensure security.
“Maintaining compliance today requires a significant investment in time, cost and management oversight. Automation and management is the key to reducing costs and achieving FDCC compliance,” says CA’s William F. Clark, vice president of technical sales and public sector CTO. “The FDCC Scanner helps federal agencies to streamline evaluation of their systems and reduce the time it takes to create compliance reports.” This automated scanning is also designed to allow agencies to immediately identify out-of-compliance systems and take the necessary steps to remediate mis-configurations to reduce security risks and vulnerabilities.
CA ITCM is a complete asset management solution for managing enterprise client devices, from desktops and laptops to mobile devices. Its integrated features enable CA customers to gain critical insight into their IT environments and automate daily operational processes to help reduce costs and increase the efficiency of IT staff and end users.
With extensive inventory and discovery capabilities, CA ITCM gives administrators a simple automated mechanism for inventorying and managing devices on an enterprise network through a process of discovery and agent deployment. The provision of an installed agent onto the discovered devices allows for ongoing centralized management and control of the devices.
