CA Enables Lean IT to Help Maximize Value and Minimize Cost

New and Enhanced Solutions Help CIOs Deliver Optimal Customer Experience, Drive Revenue and Increase IT Efficiency

ISLANDIA, N.Y., April 27, 2009 – CA, Inc. (NASDAQ:CA), the world’s leading independent IT management software company, today announced 13 new and enhanced Enterprise IT Management (EITM) products that help CIOs achieve Lean IT by reducing waste, increasing productivity and improving the customer experience.

Lean IT allows CIOs to focus on what’s most important—delivering value to their internal and external customers—while lowering costs. CA’s comprehensive EITM solutions offer a path to Lean IT by visualizing, automating and optimizing critical IT systems and processes across all environments: mainframe to distributed, virtual to physical, cloud to on-premises.

“In this challenging environment, organizations need IT to deliver maximum value and minimal cost,” said Ajei Gopal, executive vice president, Products and Technology Group, CA, Inc. “With these new EITM releases, CA is dramatically strengthening its IT management portfolio and fulfilling the promise of Lean IT. Our capabilities are delivered as integrated solutions that surpass other vendors’ cumbersome point-to-point integration, and without their hardware and services agendas that limit choice and force expensive and prolonged deployments. Customers tell us this pragmatic and flexible EITM approach allows them to think strategically and execute tactically, which is precisely what is needed now.”

To help leading organizations realize the benefits of Lean thinking, beginning in May Gartner and Forrester will be featured in CA half-day seminars around the globe on a “Pragmatic Approach to Lean IT.” Additionally, in North America CA is engaging with CIOs to develop customized Lean IT Action Plans through a one-day “Lean IT Discovery Session.” This session will focus on analyzing a critical business service and its underlying systems and processes to identify opportunities to reduce waste and cycle time.

“Fujitsu’s approach to Lean IT centers both on eliminating waste and focusing on the quality and value of IT services,” said Marc Silvester, chief technology officer, Fujitsu Services. “Our TRIOLE® methodology brings mainframe discipline to IT services and a capability to engineer out defects and waste prior to service delivery. Our strong relationship with CA and their Enterprise IT Management software has helped us develop and deliver services for our customers that are sustainable, value-added and fit-for-purpose.”

“The Lean IT approach directly addresses the main challenge that CIOs face today—the requirement to maximize the value IT delivers to the business while minimizing cost,” said Jasmine Noel, partner, Ptak, Noel & Associates LLC. “CA’s modular yet integrated EITM solutions can help enterprises and organizations become leaner with quick-win business value projects such as managing customer experience, while systematically increasing IT's productivity and efficiency for longer-term success.”

Supported by services that help provide rapid and effective implementation, the new and enhanced CA EITM solutions for Lean IT include:

Application Performance Management – End-to-End Transaction Visibility

  • Enhancements to CA Wily Application Performance Management (APM) are designed to maximize IT value through improved customer experience and minimize costs by reducing the downtime of mission critical applications. The new version shows real-time health of an application and how customer service quality is impacting the business bottom line. Extension of transaction visibility across the full range of legacy and SOA environments enables comprehensive problem avoidance, accelerated triage and problem resolution, and increased operational efficiency.

Service Management – Delivery and Support Orchestration

  • New capabilities in CA Service Catalog are designed to maximize IT value through better quality service and lower risk of business disruption, and minimize costs through automation. The new version streamlines process changes and speeds service provisioning while reducing the impact on business services.
  • Planned enhancements to CA Service Desk are designed to help maximize IT value through better quality service and lower risk of business disruption, and minimize costs through integration and automation. The new version is designed to enable a unified view of planned and detected changes across the enterprise to identify and avoid conflicts that could risk service disruptions.
  • Planned capabilities in CA IT Client Manager are designed to help maximize IT value through integration and optimized use of assets, and minimize costs through automation. The new version will include expanded asset inventory capabilities and the previously announced Federal Desktop Core Configuration Scanner.

Project and Portfolio Management – Business Alignment and Optimization

  • Enhancements to CA Clarity™ PPM On Demand are designed to maximize IT value through easy-to-implement PPM functionality and minimize costs through rapid deployment. The new version offers tailored functionality to address the processes of IT Governance, New Product Development (NPD) and U.S. Federal Government regulations like Earned Value Management (EVM).

Infrastructure Management – Business-Driven Assurance and Automation

  • Enhancements to CA Workload Automation (formerly CA dSeries Workload Automation) help to maximize IT value through improved service quality and minimize costs of service delivery. Through centralized cross-platform management of enterprise workloads across all applications, organizations can better support real-time, dynamic business events. The newest version improves service delivery to end customers through automation of workload processing as business events occur.
  • Planned Enhancements to CA Spectrum® Infrastructure Manager and CA eHealth® Performance Manager will help maximize IT value through better quality service and lowered risk of business disruption, and minimize costs through the reduction of tools required to manage end-to-end infrastructure. The planned enhancements are designed to help enterprises, government agencies and service providers gain integrated availability and performance management for both physical and virtual systems, as well as networks, unified communications systems, and databases. The comprehensive solution is planned to include new functionality for communications service providers to manage their critical, revenue-generating MPLS core networks and also provide proactive performance management of carrier-class infrastructure from Alcatel-Lucent. In addition, the solution is designed to provide proactive performance management for IP telephony systems and applications from Cisco and Siemens.

Recovery Management – Effective and Affordable Recovery via the Channel

  • Enhanced versions of CA ARCserve® Backup and CA XOsoft™ available through channel partners are designed to maximize IT value through improved protection of data in virtual and physical environments, and minimize costs through built-in automation. The new versions are designed to expand recovery management capabilities, including virtualization improvements, built-in data de-duplication and Storage Resource Management (SRM) and DR testing, to improve recoverability of critical business information and reduce the cost of data storage, protection and recovery.

Security Management – Continuous Protection

On April 20, 2009, at the RSA Conference, CA announced three products that advance its Security Management capabilities, including:

  • New CA Enterprise Log Manager is designed to maximize IT value through comprehensive log data management for improved security and compliance across systems, and minimize costs through automation and increased performance. The product is designed to collect, manage and archive data from systems such as firewalls, operating systems, applications, and more to streamline Security Information Management (SIM), help confirm compliance and support required security investigations.
  • CA Data Loss Prevention (DLP) builds on CA’s January 2009 Orchestria acquisition to help maximize IT value through improved protection of data, and minimize costs by leveraging existing IAM, encryption and log management systems for improving efficiency.
  • Planned enhancements to CA Role & Compliance Manager build on CA’s November 2008 Eurekify acquisition and are designed to help maximize IT value through improved identity lifecycle management, and minimize costs through automation.

“Everything we do at CA is focused on helping IT run efficiently and deliver optimal value," said Joanne Moretti, senior vice president, Product Marketing, CA, Inc. “On average a staggering 70% of an IT budget is consumed on day-to-day operations, giving IT little room to flex its true capabilities. CA’s Lean IT solutions reduce costs through resource optimization and process automation, allowing IT to invest in higher-value deliverables. And every incremental improvement can mean a dramatic difference in IT's value proposition to the business. Because management software isn’t just a sideline or means to an end for CA, we are well qualified to help our customers become Lean. Our solutions work, they work well together and are easy to deploy, upgrade and maintain. This is Lean in every sense of the word.”
