Download Manager (DLM)

CA recently implemented a new download manager that is a newer technology and supports the latest browsers including Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome.

Enhanced Download Manager (DLM)

  • The enhanced DLM is from Akamai and is also known as the Akamai NetSession Interface.
  • Supported on Windows platform including Windows 8/8.1 (desktop mode) and Windows 10.
  • Installs as a small executable (.exe) on Windows and a .DMG file on Mac.
  • Supported on Mac OS X 10.6+ (Intel)
  • More robust error checking.
  • Ability to recover from lost connections.

Uninstalling the Enhanced DLM

  • Windows: Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features. Highlight the entry for Akamai Net Session Interface. Click Uninstall/Change.
  • Mac OS: Navigate to [user]/Applications/Akamai and double-click Akamai NetSession Uninstaller.

Classic Download Manager (DLM)

  • Notice! Not supported with Chrome. As of Chrome v45, Chrome dropped support for the NPAPI plugin that is required to run the classic download manager.
  • The classic download manager runs as an ActiveX control with Internet Explorer 9 and below and is not supported on Internet Explorer for the Mac.
  • The download manager runs as a Java Applet on Mozilla Firefox and on Safari on the Macintosh. The Java Applet requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.x or higher.

Uninstalling the Classic DLM

  • Internet Explorer: Click on Tools -> Manage Add-ons. Select 'All add-ons' in the 'Show' dropdown. Highlight "DLM Control" under Akamai Technologies Inc. In lower panel, click on the "More Information" link. Click the "Remove" button in the lower left.

Method of Downloading from CA

To provide the best transfer speeds and to improve download completion rates, CA has implemented a new content delivery network (CDN). The content delivery network is a world-wide network of download servers that provides CA customers with:

  • Download servers that are geographically close to our customers.
  • Improved download speed with local file caching.
  • Large file optimization.
  • A new download manager (DLM).

Download Options:

Preferred FTP

Preferred FTP uses CA's world-wide content delivery network (CDN).

You can download individual files or multiple files from your download cart from servers that are close to you, improving your download speed and minimizing or eliminating failures from dropped connections that can result from many hops to get to a distant server. The content delivery network also uses large file optimization.

CA creates a virtual directory for your order from which you can download all of your ordered files using a compatible FTP client or command-line FTP. Some browsers will also function as an FTP client.

If you are not able to download using the Preferred FTP method, your company may have security restrictions that require knowledge of and configuration for all servers that company employees can download from that are outside of your corporate network.

To download from CA's content delivery network, the host name used in the url is new. The new hostname is:

Note: This URL is used for downloading via FTP for all files on the content delivery network.

Alternate FTP

Alternate FTP will now be the option that uses the previous download servers that are based on Long Island, New York. Hostnames for downloading via the Alternate FTP method are:

FTP - - product files and download cart files.
FTP - - individual solution files.

HTTP via Download Manager

Included with CA's content delivery network (CDN) is the newly introduced Enhanced Download manager and the original (classic) version. The original version does not support the newest browsers and is no longer usable with Chrome as of version 45. The enhanced version is recommended as it provides the most robust error checking and because of its compatibility with the latest browsers. See the information at the top of this document.

If your workstation does not allow installation of either download manager or you choose not to use it, you will also have the option to download via your browser. Depending on the number of files in your request, you may be presented with a small number of individual links to use with your browser or in some circumstances, CA may create a zip file which can then be used with your browser.

The download manager uses CA's content delivery network (CDN) and the hostnames used for HTTP and HTTPs are:

HTTP - (Classic DLM)
HTTPS - (Enhanced DLM)

To optimize downloads of CA products and solutions from CA's content delivery network, please configure the following additional URLs in your network security software and/or firewalls.

If you are a new CA customer and also need to configure the New York-based alternate download locations, please configure the following hostname URLs.

IP Addresses - CA is aware that some companies require the configuration of specific IP addresses in their security software. CA does not publish IP addresses. With hundreds of potential servers on the CDN, it would be extremely difficult to determine the exact IP address that would be used for your downloads at any given time. Servers may be removed temporarily for maintenance increasing the chances that a specific IP address would not be available.

If you still require IP addresses for your network configuration, please open a case on CA Support Online for the product "Support Online" or contact CA by phone using the CA Support directory by country:
