    Enhancements

1.0 New Enhancement Features in Harvest Agent

  • Single-User option in Harvest agent

Users can start up the Harvest agent process as a User process with the single user option, versus the current default of a Root process. The user will be prompted for a password if not specified. The password itself is a unique token/certificate that will be used between the agent and other Harvest processes. User A logged into Harvest client or Web client can only access his/her agent and cannot access an agent started by User B. This is an additional option available to the existing Root based agent. With this enhanced feature, it eliminates the authentication concern (for example, RSA Secure ID) on the requirement of root/admin access for running the Harvest agent process. In addition, the access of mapped network drive is supported via single-user based agent. This enhancement addressed issues 11520067, 11045986 and 11914204.

2.0 Support Harvest User Password Policy

This new enhanced feature enables Harvest administrators to define the rules for Harvest password validation to meet security needs. The supported rules include minimum password length, maximum repeated characters allowed, minimum numeric/lower-case/upper-case /non-alphanumeric characters in password, maximum failed login attempts before lockout, maximum/minimum password usage days, password reuse count, allow user to change expired password, and password expiration warning days. It also support the case that you need password never expired, and require password change at next login.

The rules will default to the settings that result in Harvest 5.1 behavior. In other words, the only rule in place by default is minimum password length of 6. In this release, it records the time when a password is created in order to support the password expiration rule. When Harvest 5.1.1 is installed, user password times are initialized to the modified time of the user. When password expiration rules are defined, some passwords may immediately expire.

A new Harvest installation has only one user: harvest. The harvest password should be changed before password expiration rules are defined. More information on Harvest Password Policy can be found in the Administrator Guide.

    This enhancement addressed issues 11203388, 11203439/11224767, 10554976/11696396, 11203374, and 11709138.

3.0 Show the Login User ID in the Harvest GUI

In the Harvest workbench and Administrator GUI, the user ID of Harvest login user will be shown. STAR issues 10867993 and 11214014 are addressed.

4.0 Function Enhancements and Usage Improvements in the Web Interface

  • Able to associate multiple forms to a package and remove forms from associated packages. STAR issue 11899827.

  • Support new security features including password expiration, lockout, and warning the user when their password will expire.

  • Supports Oracle 9i and is delivered with the latest JDBC driver.

  • Session does not time out.

  • Support for WebSphere-can use Harweb from within WebSphere.

  • Various bugs fixes.

5.0 Support Tab/DEL/CTL Keys in Harvest Form

Harvest 5.1.1 is able to support tab key, delete key and CTRL-C/CTRL-V for cut-and-paste operations in Harvest form now. Harvest 5.1 forms consist of a single htm file for each page of a form tab and one for the main page. Harvest 5.1.1 combines all htm files into one for all form tabs. See the section "Forms: Conversion from 5.1 to 5.1.1 Format" below for details. This improvement addressed STAR issues including 11173762/1, 11422592/1, 10991638/1, 11060315/1, 11655203/2, 11881880/1, 1881889/6, 11984936/1.

6.0 Support Anchor Concept on Check In/Check Out

Added feature to allow the user setting either the default view path/client directory based on user context or current view path/client directory in the Check-out/Check-in GUI. For Harvest windows extension (HARWIND), user can set the context for view path and corresponding client directory for check-in/check-out. Addressed issue 11931904, 11936601.

    7.0 WebSphere Studio Integration

The installation of the client component will include this option to support the usage of WebSphere studio integration (similar to the VCI installation). Several issues were addressed including:

  • Dependence on Sun's JRE 1.3.1_03 or above. Now all JREs version 1.3 and above are supported, particularly the one that comes with WSAD/WSSD so there is no longer any need to specify a separate virtual machine with the
    "–vm" option.

  • Intermittent crash while adding to workspace, catch up, release

  • Workspace not refreshed after catch-up causes resources to appear out of sync.

  • Check for null view ID when setting context.

  • Block access to contexts saved by other users.

  • Empty folders not always checked out.

  • New connection wizard freezes if bad broker name specified after a previous successful login.

  • In addition, new security features including password expiration, lockout, and warning the user when their password will expire are supported.

8.0 Support CTL-Z Embedded in the DOS Text File

Harvest currently does not support the text file, which contains CTL-Z as either end of line or more commonly as end-of-file character. CTL-Z character cannot be retained in the Harvest repository due to the usage of Window API, which does not support DOS file. The existing logic will be extended to treat this kind of DOS file as TEXT file and keep CTL-Z character. Support of the interactive merge function to DOS file will be provided as well. (#610, #613)

    9.0 Oracle Support

For a list of the supported versions of Oracle, refer to the Harvest Compatibility Matrix, and refer to the column referencing the latest certified version of Harvest 5.1.1.

    Installation Considerations for 5.1.1

    Non-Admin Windows Client Installation

Installation of the Harvest 5.1.1 client on a Windows NT/2K/XP machine without Administrator rights may encounter the following error when starting the client interface:

"The procedure entry point__lc_collate_cp could not be located in dynamic link library MSVCRT.dll"

To workaround this error run the following from a command prompt:
     mv.exe msvcrt.1 msvcrt.dll mv.exe msvcirt.1 msvcirt.dll

    Restart the computer.

Installing the Harvest Broker as a Windows Service

The Harvest broker can be installed and started as a Windows service. Follow the instructions below for your Harvest server/database configuration.

    1. If the Harvest server and Oracle database are installed on the same network host machine (local database connection):

Install the broker service with the following command executed from a command prompt

    bkrd –install=OracleService<instance>

where "OracleService<instance>" is the name of your Oracle instance in the Windows services control panel. For example, if the Oracle instance is "ORA8I", then the above command is

    bkrd –install=OracleServiceORA8I

    2. If the Harvest server is on a distinct network host machine from the Oracle database host machine (remote database connection):

Install the broker service with the following command executed from a command prompt

    bkrd –install

Note: if the Oracle instance service is not started on the remote machine then the Harvest broker service will fail to start. Make sure the Oracle instance service is started on the remote machine prior to starting the broker service.

Reboot the Harvest broker machine to start the Harvest broker service.

    Migration to Harvest 5.1.1

The following information is a guideline for upgrading to the Harvest 5.1.1 release. Additional information can be found in the Installation Guide.

    Windows - 5.0.1/5.0.2 Upgrade Client/Server/AgentOnly Pre-Installation Steps

Perform the following steps to prepare for the installation of Harvest 5.1.1:

  • Back up any custom files (i.e., UDP scripts) in the %HARVESTHOME% location if necessary.

  • From Add/Remove programs in the Windows Control Panel, un-install the Harvest client and/or server.

  • Restart the computer.

    Windows – 5.0.1/5.0.2/5.1.0 to 5.1.1 Upgrade Client/Server/AgentOnly Installation Considerations

The steps described below are meant to clarify the selection of the install location for the Harvest product components. For detailed information on all installation dialogs, see the CA Software Change Manager Install Guide 5.1.1, Chapter 1 "Installation on Windows Systems."

Note: If you are upgrading an existing Harvest 5 installation, you may be prompted with a "Replace Read Only Files" dialog. Select YES to replace Harvest read only files.

  • The Harvest 5.1.1 install for Windows has been modified to comply with CA installation standards.

  • Harvest 5.0.2 must be uninstalled before Harvest 5.1.1 can be installed. Harvest 5.1.0 does not require uninstalling before upgrading to 5.1.1.

  • For 5.0.1/5.0.2 upgrade only: The user is prompted to specify a location for installation of CA products (Harvest, PEC, CAI/PT ODBC). The default location is C:Program FilesCA. Please note this location is not the %HARVESTHOME% but the install path. The %HARVESTHOME% will be one directory below the install path. If a shared component (PEC, CAI/PT ODBC) is already installed, then the new version will be installed into the current installation location. Otherwise, it is installed under the selected CA install folder.

  • Harvest 5.1.1 creates a new shortcut on the start programs menu. A Harvest shortcut will be created under Computer Associates > AllFusion > Harvest CM. Icons for Server, Client, and Agent will be listed under this single shortcut. If installing over a previous version of Harvest, the start menu will contain both the old and new shortcuts.

  • Harvest 5.1.1 allows users to custom install documentation to any location. The default documentation location is the %HARVESTHOME%. Documentation shortcuts are created on the Harvest CM start menu.

Windows HTML Forms: Conversion from 5.x to 5.1.1 Format

Harvest 5.x forms consisted of a single htm file for each page of a form and one for the main page. Harvest 5.1.1 combines all htm files into one.

The steps described below must be run to convert any custom forms created by previous versions (i.e., Harvest Custom Form Wizard).

    This effects all client installations.

The 5.1.1 Client Installation program will backup the %HARVESTHOME%forms directory for safety. The name of this directory is "backup".

Two new conversion programs are installed in the %HARVESTHOME%forms directory by the 5.1.1 client install:

ConvertHtm.exe – converts htm files to new single file format

ConvertHfd.exe – converts Harvest Form Definition files to new format.

  • Open a COMMAND window

  • cd %HARVESTHOME%forms

  • Create a new directory formsnew.

  • ConvertHtm.exe backup new

  • ConvertHfd.exe backup new

Distribute both htm and hfd files to all Harvest Client machines and place in the %HARVESTHOME%forms directory.

Windows - 5.0.1/5.0.2/5.1.0 to 5.1.1 Upgrade Server Remote Database Installation Considerations

The Harvest database resides on a different host machine than the Harvest server in this configuration. Follow steps 1 and 2 above in "Client/Server/Agent Only Installation Considerations". Next, the Harvest database schema needs to be updated:

Locate the SQL script "Upgrade.sql" found in the %HARVESTHOME%Installlog directory. Run the "Upgrade.sql" script against the Harvest database using the Harvest table owner. For example:
     sqlplus harvest/harvest@<service> @Upgrade.sql

where <service> is an Oracle TCP/IP service name to connect to the remote database machine.

Note: For those users running "Harvest server versions", you will need to run Upgrade.sql against every database instance or user.

For Harvest 5.0.1 server upgrade only:

Harvest 5.0.1 user passwords must be converted to binary format. This is done by runnning the password conversion utility, convpw.exe. You will need the Harvest database username and password and CAI/PT ODBC datasource name to run convpw.exe.

The passowrd conversion utility, convpw.exe, is located in the %HARVESTHOME% directory of the Harvest 5.1.1 server installation. For example:

    convpw.exe harvestdb harvest har5

where harvestdb is the name of CAI/PT ODBC datasource and harvest/har5 is the owner of the Harvest database tables.

For further information, see the AllFusion Harvest Change Manager Install Guide 5.1 Chapter 1 "Installation on Windows Systems".

    UNIX – 5.1.0 to 5.1.1Upgrade Harvest Server/AgentOnly

On UNIX systems, only the Harvest server files need upgrading to 5.1.1. See the Installation Guide for additional installation information on running the Harvest server installation upgrade option.

    UNIX – 5.0.1/5.0.2 to 5.1.1 Harvest Server/AgentOnly Upgrade

On UNIX systems, the following Harvest server components require upgrading:

  • CA Licensing – Lic98

  • CA Cryptography (CACE) when upgrading from 5.0.1 only.

  • Harvest server – version 5.1.1

  • Enterprise Communicator (PEC) – new version 4.3

  • CAI/PT ODBC – v3.11

Agent Only installs (no Harvest server), requires the following components to be upgraded or installed:

  • Harvest Agent – version 5.1.1

  • Enterprise Communicator (PEC) – new version 4.3

  • CA Cryptography (CACE) when upgrading from 5.0.1 only.

See the CA Software Change Manager Install Guide 5.1.1, Chapter 2 "Installation on UNIX Systems" for detailed installation and upgrade instructions.

UNIX - 5.0.1/5.0.2/5.1.0 to 5.1.1 Server: Remote Database Installation Considerations

The Harvest database resides on a different host machine than the Harvest server in this configuration. Upgrade the components indicated above for the Harvest server. Next, the Harvest database schema needs to be updated:

Locate the SQL script "Upgrade.sql" found in the
$HARVESTHOME/install/etc directory. Run the "Upgrade.sql" script against the Harvest database using the Harvest table owner. For example:
     sqlplus harvest/harvest@<service> @Upgrade.sql

where <service> is an Oracle TCP/IP service name to connect to the remote machine.

Note: For those users running "Harvest server versions", you will need to run Upgrade.sql against every database instance or user.

See the CA Software Change Manager Install Guide 5.1, Appendix A "Harvest UNIX Installation for Remote Database" for detailed installation instructions.

For Harvest 5.0.1 server upgrade only:

Harvest 5.0.1 user passwords must be converted to binary format. This is done by runnning the password conversion utility, convpw*. You will need the Harvest database username and password and CAI/PT ODBC datasource name to run convpw*.

The passowrd conversion utility, convpw*, is located in the $HARVESTHOME/bin directory of the Harvest 5.1.1 server installation. For example:

    convpw harvestdb harvest har5

where harvestdb is the name of CAI/PT ODBC datasource and harvest/har5 is the owner of the Harvest database tables.

MVS – 5.0.1/5.0.2/5.1.0 to 5.1.1 Harvest Agent Only Upgrade

Users must rename or delete the hagent member in <hlq>.home.cm PDS. The 5.1.1. Harvest agent will not connect if this PDS member exists.
