CA Helps Enable the World’s First Production EMV 3-D Secure 2.0 Transactions

The world’s first EMV 3-D Secure 2.0 (EMV 3DS 2.0) transactions were successfully processed through the CA Technologies production system in a live environment on Sept. 13, 2018.
Adyen N.V., a large European Payment Processor, announced the successful implementation of its 3DS 2.0 service on August 30. Just two weeks later, CA Technologies confirmed processing the first 3DS 2.0 transactions in its production environment. This was all made possible through CA Payment Security Suite from CA Technologies, the leading ACS Provider for Card-Issuing Banks. CA Technologies already holds the unique distinction of executing the world’s first 3-D Secure 1.x transactions and can now say the same for the world’s first EMV 3-D Secure 2.0 transactions. This marks a historic milestone in the payment industry.
The transactions were what is referred to as frictionless flow transactions. That means the EMV 3DS 2.0 transactions were assessed via CA Payment Security Suite and authenticated without interruption. EMV 3DS 2.0 was created to significantly improve the checkout experience for the customer, especially on mobile devices, eliminating the need for customers to painstakingly enter usernames and passwords just to ensure legitimacy.
Julie Conroy, one of the leading research analysts from AITE Group, referred to EMV 3DS 2.0 as an important milestone in the payment industry in an article published on Digital Transactions. Not only will it improve the online shopping experience for customers, but it can provide so much more value to banks, merchants, and processors in the areas of frictionless fraud prevention and customer satisfaction.
Furthermore, EMV 3DS 2.0 provides the opportunity for payment providers to comply with European Union’s PSD2 Regulatory Technical Standards on Strong Consumer Authentication and CA Technologies provides user-friendly strong authentication that can be used when compliance is required.
