Virtual collaboration

Employee led volunteer groups

At CA, our employees are focused on removing the obstacles our customers face every day—the barriers between ideas and business outcomes. Every CA employee knows that when our customers win, we win. So, we prioritize our customers’ needs and pride ourselves on our ability to surprise and delight. At CA, employee empowerment means encouraging groundbreaking ideas and providing opportunities to pursue them.

Empowering employees means equipping them with trust and the ability to present new ideas and display individual talents. This is how we effect change. We believe that speed, execution and problem-solving are delivered when initiative is nurtured and people can easily collaborate to develop new ideas in a supportive environment. We succeed together by building on and learning from each other. Our role as a company is to help provide the spark that ignites ideas. This helps create avenues for employees to advance innovation organically.

We’re providing sparks in other ways, too. In 2016, we held fireside chats with employees across the globe, where people are encouraged to engage with executives in thoughtful conversation. We’ve also introduced a new Mission and “DNA”, both of which position us as a truly purpose-driven organization. And to further democratize innovation and spark creativity, last year we also launched the CA Accelerator, a new approach to development akin to a lean startup, in which employees receive support and funding to bring new products into market. In all, we experiment continuously, solve problems as we go and keep our customers involved at every stage, knowing that great ideas only matter if you’re building things people will actually use.

Employee empowerment is also fostered through a creative new customer engagement program launched in 2016 that helps typically non-customer-facing employees check in with customers regarding their digital transformation journey so these employees can better understand how we can help customers succeed.

THRIVE: Workforce Diversity and Inclusion

Being Built to Change means continually adapting in order to compete. At CA, creativity and innovation are driven by our employees’ diversity of perspective, experience and thought. Combined with our inclusive workplace, this diversity helps our people and our business thrive.

Part of our talent strategy, our THRIVE approach to diversity and inclusion is woven into the fabric of CA, enabling us to inspire our customers, enable our partners and contribute to the communities in which we live. Our employees are motivated to deliver winning technologies and outcomes for our clients—and to have fun along the way.

Employee Surveys

We conduct a comprehensive Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) every 18 to 24 months. In between each EOS, we also conduct a Pulse Survey to monitor progress. Key results from our 2016 Pulse Survey include:

Strengths. The most favorable results in the survey, with a score of 85 percent favorable or more, were for understanding of and alignment with our corporate strategy, mission and purpose; pride in working for CA; and having access to information that helps employees effectively perform their jobs. Our employee engagement score increased in 2016, remains strong and is consistent with that of other high-tech companies.

Improvements. Score increase year-on-year for overall job satisfaction, use the EOS feedback in making improvements, progress made on elevating the brand and delivering innovation, and receiving manager feedback to accelerate performance.

Outcomes. Compared with other high-tech companies: we lead in providing employee feedback, providing access to information that helps employees effectively perform their jobs, managers creating an environment of recognition, employees being involved in decisions, employees feeling valued, and overall job satisfaction.

What our Employees Have to Say

In our most recent Pulse Survey, employee engagement continued to trend upward and has improved year over year.

We continue to trend at or above tech-industry norms in all 14 areas in our employee survey. The areas where our scores are the highest compared with the tech industry are:

  • Having access to information about what is going on in the company
  • Managers creating an environment of recognition
  • Employees being involved in decisions that impact their work

While employees are more engaged than ever, CA shares the challenges faced by the tech industry as a whole of retaining talent, an area we are focused on addressing.

At CA, employee empowerment means encouraging groundbreaking ideas and providing opportunities to pursue them.
