“This next-generation CA Technologies solution will have a transformative impact on Swisscom TV, allowing the organisation to roll-out compelling new digital TV services more quickly, to a very high standard of quality and at lower cost,” says Ahmad Alayan, Head of DevOps, SwisscomTV. “This is a reflection of today’s app economy driven by the consumer. By relying on CA Technologies to introduce these new services more quickly, we are giving our one million customers greater choice—turning them into their own programme directors, with the flexibility to decide how, when and where they watch.”
Swisscom TV 2.0 is an entirely new digital TV solution offering customers additional features like seven-day replay across 250 channels, more top-rated films and live sports events, and mobile viewing on their smartphones, tablets or PCs. The new service relies on an innovative new Cloud-based solution, which replaces the traditional set-top box used for interactive television and TV on demand. When customers navigate services, they are in fact navigating a browser which gets its content streamed from a Cloud service.
The challenge for Swisscom TV was to automate and streamline the process of pushing new changes (new content, new service functionality) to this Cloud model. Any release automation solution also needed to scale seamlessly in line withthe predicted and actual demandfor Swisscom TV 2.0.
CA Release Automation automates Swisscom’s complex, multi-tier release deployments through orchestration and promotion of applications—from development through production. The solution also addresses critical DevOps challenges by providing a continuous delivery solution that helps improve visibility across Swisscom’s deployment chain. This approach speeds up application release cycles and operational agility, facilitates higher quality releases via simplified release processes and reduces cost through enhanced Development and Operations alignment.
Swisscom chose CA Release Automation based on its ease of use, seamless provisioning and deployment, and integration with existing Swisscom IT investments.
