Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) research clearly establishes that early adopters of SDN are using the technology to automate data center networks and add application-specific optimization. They expect these SDN initiatives to boost end-user productivity and grow revenue. However, their research has determined that most organizations’ existing network management systems are ill-prepared to fully support SDN and NFV.  Just 31 percent of enterprises report that their availability monitoring tools were prepared, while only 33 percent were confident that their performance monitoring tools were ready and a mere 32 percent believe their troubleshooting tools were up to the task of supporting these new technologies

Clearly a major threat to SDN and NFV success looms for the enterprise. Most incumbent operations support and readiness tools and service assurance systems are not prepared to support these new network technologies. Several new functional requirements have emerged that management systems vendors must address.  With its new Virtual Network Assurance (VNA) software, CA has delivered a technology that enables SDN and NFV management.
