IT departments appear unprepared for the emerging technologies that are driving today’s business opportunities, according to a recent survey from CA Technologies. The resulting report, titled “Think Your Organization Is on Top of Your Software Development Game?,” primarily focuses on the struggles that software developers face: Very few feel “fully prepared” for Agile, DevOps and machine learning. At the same time, both IT and business executives agree that the tech department isn’t delivering on key business needs. A total of 125 software developers and nearly 1,280 IT and business executives took part in the research, which was conducted by Freeform Dynamics. Charts for this slide show were provided by CA Technologies.
Software Development Processes Are Out-of-Date
Just 14 percent of software developers “strongly agree” that current software development processes are followed all the time. Only 18 percent strongly agree that their software development processes are documented and well-understood.
IT Remains Unprepared for Agile
Software developers do not feel ready to respond to modern IT innovation drivers: Only 15 percent said they are “fully prepared” for Agile methods. Just 16 percent said the same about DevSecOps (development security operations).
