Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, recently penned a letter to shareholders explaining why he believes focus on “Day 1”: centering a business on obsessive customer focus, resisting proxies, embracing external trends, and high-velocity decision making are essential to succeeding as a business. Bezos adds that losing the “day 1” start-up like mentality leads to your demise.
If we focus on the customer-centricity aspect for product development, it is not a want but a must have in order for businesses to develop better solutions that truly meet the needs of customers. He brings up an interesting point, and one that businesses continue to struggle with, especially given the continuously changing technology landscape, focused on evolutionary innovation.
While remaining customer centric is paramount to success, within that is the importance of utilizing the knowledge you gain about your customer’s needs and pain points to deliver a best-in-class customer experience. While others struggle, those who are in tune with delivering on-target solutions that satisfy their customers’ expectations every time will survive and thrive.
