Assembling the DevOps Jigsaw
Do you have all the right pieces in place to ensure success with DevOps?
What does it really mean to say you are implementing DevOps? While you may have begun to break down barriers between your development and operations teams, have you considered all the cross-functional processes, cultural transformation, training and enabling infrastructure that are required? Success in practice requires a business-led approach, adequately skilled and collaborative IT teams, and the implementation of a range of key enablers and controls.
This paper explores these areas further and identifies nine key areas that are each confirmed by more than 80% of study respondents as being important for maximizing DevOps effectiveness. This is what we call the DevOps Jigsaw. Assembling all the pieces is essential to reap the full business benefits of DevOps.
The study also looks at the roughly 20% of respondents who have completed or made significant progress toward putting all the pieces together. These advanced DevOps users demonstrate the significant benefits that can come from doing DevOps right:
Advanced DevOps adopters (as compared to those without DevOps) are:
- 2.5x more likely to have seen improvements in customer retention
- 2x more likely to have seen improvements in customer acquisition
- 3.4x more likely to have seen progress on market share
- 2x more likely to have seen a positive impact on revenue growth
