Summary:

In an emergency, a site may need to have a lmpkey with which to run their CA IDMS system. In the case of a disaster recovery  on a remote machine. This document describes how to obtain a key in that situation. How can LMP keys be obtained in an emergency?

Background:

The CA LMP verification process is done at IPL time. A CAW0PROC(CAS9) proc is executed, then the CAIRIM reads the LMPKEYs from the CAW0OPTN(KEYS) data set member. This KEYS member must contains all of the LMP keys for all of your CA Products. An LMP key is unique to a CA product and the CPU number on which the product is to be implemented.

One type of emergency can occur when a site's CPU is not available and you must bring up your CA IDMS systems on a different CPU. Mainframe software products will not run on the new CPU unless you have an appropriate LMP key (generated with that CPU number) or an EKG (emergency key for any CPU).

A second type of emergency a site may encounter is a fatal hardware error requiring that the site completely reboot their CPU. In that case they will need their existing LMP keys but they may not have a record of them.

Environment:
This can happen in any emergency situation, for any operating system or hardware device.
Instructions:

You may be able to obtain these keys in advance of an emergency by opening an issue with our licensing group and explaining what you need. You can open such an issue on http://support.ca.com, or by calling our technical support number. For North America that number is 1-800-225-5224; For an International directory by country, check http://www.ca.com/us/support/phone.aspx

Case 1: Mainframe unusable, such that you must start up the products on a new CPU

In case of a disaster which renders your mainframe unusable, such that you must start up the products on a new CPU, you can obtain an EKG emergency key by phoning the appropriate number as noted above, then following the prompts as noted for licensing questions.

The technician who answers the phone will consider this a Severity 1 (emergency) situation, and will provide you with the EKG key during your call.

You will, of course, also need to have a backup of all the relevant CA IDMS software libraries and databases files available to the emergency CPU in addition to having this key.

Case 2: Mainframe viable, but must re-boot and can't find LMP keys

In the situation where you are able to use your existing CPU but have lost the LMP keys there are a couple of options:

1- You can search your JCL libraries for the CAIRIM job that is used at IPL time and check the contents of KEYS DD statement. This is where the LMP keys are.
The IDMS LMP key will be in this format:

PROD(GJ) DATE(ddmmmyy) CPU(ttt-mmm/ssssss) LMPCODE(kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk)

2- Y
ou can also download your current LMP keys from CA Support Online as follows:
a- Login to CA Support Online;
b- Click MENU and select LICENSING;
c- In the middle of page click on the link: "View your LMP License Keys";
d- Then you will just need to include the CA IDMS LMP key in with your LMP keys pointed to by the KEYS DD in your CAIRIM job used at IPL time.

In both cases:

Once you have the valid LMP key. it must be added to the CAW0OPTN(KEYS) member that contains all of the LMP keys for all of your site's CA products.

A temporary solution is to run SAMPJCL(JOB04) with the KEYS DD that has the IDMS LMP key coded instream, and DUMMY out the PARMLIB stmts.

When they provide you with the LMP key you can run SAMPJCL(JOB04) with the PARMLIB DD DUMMY and the LMP key instream in the KEYS DD stmt.

For example:
//**************************************************************
//PARMLIB DD DUMMY
//*PRODUCT(CA IDMS) VERSION(GJI0) INIT(GJI0INIT) PARM(SVC=174)
/*
//*** THE KEYS DD STATEMENT IS USED ONLY FOR DEFINING LMP ***
//*** KEY INFORMATION TO CAIRIM, NOT FOR LOADING THE SVC. ***
//*** IT IS INCLUDED HERE TO PREVENT A CAS9171A MESSAGE ***
//*** FROM BEING ISSUED. ***
//*** ***
//**************************************************************
//KEYS DD *
PROD(GJ) DATE(ddmmmyy) CPU(ttt-mmm/ssssss) LMPCODE(kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk)
/*
//**************************************************************
